PRESENT TENSE: Andrew Bryant and the making of Prodigal

When Andrew Bryant started writing the music for PRODIGAL, he thought it was completely about the past. It turns out the past is always with us. Bryant’s music evokes a cinematic vision of his boyhood, past friendships, family struggles, religious trauma, and Southern identity. In this touching and personal documentary by Gerard Matthews, we see a young artist struggle with his place in time (the past and the present) and space (what it means to be an artist in the South). But we also see how processing these themes through music brings a tremendous sense of hope, relief, and joy.

A GOOD CAMPAIGN

This film follows Clarke Tucker, his campaign staff, his family, and friends in the final days of a heated congressional race. Though the odds are stacked against him from the outset, we see the young candidate handle the challenges of the race with heart, determination, and dignity. Tucker was hoping to be part of the blue wave that took back the US House after two years of Trump in 2018, but it proved too much of an ask for the voters in Arkansas’s 2nd Congressional District.
